History Of The Morgan Silver Dollar

Morgan silver dollar was minted in an attempt to keep the price of silver stabilized after an enormous silver strike in Colorado caused a sudden crash in the price of silver. This dollar was minted from 1878 through 1904, then stopped because silver suddenly increased in price, and then minted for one more year in 1921.

In addition, it was minted in several locations: Carson City, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Philadelphia; only Denver and Philadelphia are mint locations today. The value of a Morgan silver dollar depends on its year, the mint that created it, and the quality of its preservation.

A Morgan silver dollar has the head of Lady Liberty on the front and a wing-spread eagle holding arrows and an olive branch on the back; you’ll recognize the reverse as being very similar to that of a quarter. This coin is the first of our minted coins to use the slogan E Pluribus

The 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar was minted at 4 US Mints just like the 1881 Morgan Silver Dollar. A lot people want to know how much a 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar is worth today.

1882 Philadelphia: Look for this coin to be at least Brilliant uncirculated, coins under that are not going to fetch much if you feel you have a great example maybe a proof like quality coin get it graded or if you think it may be above a mint state 65. Always grade your coins by NGC, PCGS or ANACS.

If you are lucky enough to have a real proof as you may already know it is pretty scarce depending on condition differences of thousands of dollars.

Silver Dollar Coins – Prized Collectibles

Lots of folks enjoy accumulating and exchanging silver dollar coins as a pastime. Now is it less common to see these silver coins at all so it is a thrill to come across one. Unfortunately, not everyone recognizes rarity and seeing only the denomination of these coins will have no problem spending them like any other cash.

In the late 19th century, a silver dollar known as the Morgan dollar was put into use. This characterizes of an eagle on one side and the face of Miss Liberty on the other side. Due to the weedy looks of the eagle in the coin, it is sometimes referred to as the “buzzard dollar”. The production of Morgan dollar coins stopped in 1921, but even now they are worth collecting.

Some people like to trade their coins for others. Hobbyists like themselves may own a certain coin that is needed to fit a specific collection, so they will turn to these fellow coin collectors and offer one of their own unique coins.
